Major General Muhammadu Buhari (ret): The current N200 can continue to be used legally until April 10 thanks to the President’s permission.

During a speech to Nigerians on Thursday morning, the President made the announcement.

He also apologized to Nigerians for the difficulties they encountered in obtaining the rare new naira notes.

He stated, “I listened to great advice from well-meaning individuals and organizations across the country during the prolonged period of the currency swap deadline.”

“In a similar vein, I held extensive discussions with Council of State members and State Governors.” First and foremost, I have emphasized that the case is before our nation’s courts and that some statements have been made in support of a government that upholds the rule of law.

According to the statement, “I have given approval to the CBN that the old N200 bank notes be released back into circulation and that they should be allowed to circulate as legal tender with the new N200, N500, and N1000 banknotes for 60 days from February 10, 2023, until April 10, 2023, when the old N200 notes cease to be legal tender.” This will lessen the strain on the supply, especially for our citizens.
